After studying biochemistry at IU, I started medical school at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Because I grew up in Bloomington, Louisville is the first new city I’ve lived in, and I have had a super fun time so far! During my first year, I joined some clubs to get more involved with the school and the city. One was the club tennis team at UofL, another was Louisville’s chapter of Sierra Club, and a third was the Parkinson’s Disease Buddy Program at my school. I have loved keeping up with tennis and learning more about the environmental issues that directly impact us and our neighbors. Through the buddy program, I got to meet with my very own buddy every week and also learn a lot more about the disease—both pathologically and how it affects the day to day parts of life. This really sparked my interest in neurology, so for now, my plan is to become a neurologist. I’ve had the awesome opportunity to work on some research focusing on addiction psychiatry, as well, and I hope to continue this type of work throughout my career, particularly because Indiana and Kentucky are being hit so hard by the methamphetamine epidemic.
